One coronation sussex among 5 other female birds began making strange strangled squawking. A friend said they try to crow in the absence of a rooster. After a couple of weeks I noticed she was missing. Found her dead in their house, no sign of wounds. Any ideas?

Laryngeo tracheitis causes a mucus build up in the throat and they suffocate. There are vaccines available for young birds. You can try antibiotics in the water for affected birds. It is highly contagious.
