STRANGE or FUNNY NAMES

I have to say, growing up with an unusual name, I decided my kids would have plain simple names, David, Aaron, Joseph. Now that they are growing up, they all wished I named them something like Colt, Wyatt, etc.. Go figure...

I come from an Irish background. My Grandmother's last name was Dailey and she married into the Doody family. The engagement in the newspaper read: Dailey - Doody.

My great great aunt had a lovely name: Maggie O'Hara.

I work with a lady who tells this story about her brother. Her mother had had several miscarrages so when she got pregnant again she went to live at a convent. The nuns prayed for her daily and her brother was born healthy at full term. The mother was so grateful to the nuns that she let them name the baby. His name is Marian Joseph.
I recently had a lady at work sign her name La-a. She explained it is pronounced Ladasha.
There was a gang war in a near by town. A notorious gang member was killed. 11 months later his girlfriend gave birth. She named the baby after the gang member with the middle name daghost. There is no end to what people will name their children. We have a doctor, Dr. Lawyer.

My hubby's Cousin Judy from Texas was vistiting the family in Cali about 8 years ago. We were all at my mother in laws house and Cousin Judy got on this total tangent about how people name their kids the weirdest names (her husbands name is Hilton). Case in point was poor Cousin Doyle. (Think Foil but with a "D" ) So anyway she was going on and on and on about the way kids are named in this day and age, and that the parents don't give any thought to what kind of heck those same kids go through in school because of those names (she teaches). I'm thinking "Wow she really feels strongly about traditional names" so I finally asked her if her daughters name was a nickname. She looked at me and said to me :" Know why would you think Gidget's name is a nickname?". Sigh.....
