I agree with what @aart said. I personally feed my chickens layer feed with 16% protein and cat food as a treat to boost their protein level. I also feed their eggs back to them when they are too poopy or I do not know how old they are (my chickens free range so they lay in a lot of hidden locations). They produce really healthy eggs, and their health overall is great. Sometimes randomly they may produce eggs with calcium spots on them, but those are from the hens who rather eat the eggshells than the yoke when I feed them eggs (calcium spots are from excess calcium).

Here is a helpful list of egg abnormalities and their causes (though do take note that some "abnormalities" will be completely normal on hens that are supposed to be laying eggs looking like that, such as Faverolles laying pink eggs and Welsummers laying splotched or speckled eggs.)
