Hard to photograph but Frizzled cockerel has a strange, raised (couple of cms high) , white spot on his back where the tail feathers raise from. It is red at the base of the spot and seems uncomfortable. Any help would be appreciated!! :)

Wow I had never heard of this! Yes it must be that...my husband thought it may be sensitive but probably just a cockerel not wanting to be inspected too closely! I never poked at it myself in case it was sensitive. Thanks so much for that info :)

You're welcome.

One of my hens was pecked on by her female flock mates their first year - she even pecked at the bloody gland herself. She lived her first year with blukote around the tail - never had the heart to take a pic of her like that - but she was ridiculously funny with her blonde tail feathers surrounded by a purple ring :) And the preen gland healed and looks and functions normally.

Even my friendly hens do not like any physical exams.

Because he is super Frizzled you can see it all the time...very confusing!!
Your poor girl, glad she recovered :)
