Is this a good price/build?

We are in need of a larger coop for our 6 hens. While I know it's cheaper and better to build our own, at this point in time, my hubby and I do not have the ability to do so. Ideally we'd love a walk in one with extra space so the girls have room to move around indoors in winter if it's too cold outside, and we can keep food and water inside it as well. I found a place a few hours away that build sheds. They take orders, can customize some, and will come build/assemble it for us on our property. The smallest they do is 4x8, (which is bigger than we need, but we're ok with that) they charge 2090 base. Windows add $100 each, and delivery will cost another $200. I think in total we'd be looking at almost $2500 (shed + maybe 2 windows and delivery). We'd have to add our own roosting bars and nesting boxes, which isn't a big deal.

Does $2500 sound like a decent price for delivery, build, and the customizing? This is the website. Do the 'features' look like they'd be ok for chickens? https://www.backyardsheddesign.com/

Any input would be really appreciated.

Not sure where you are at but I got a 8x12’ shed with metal roof, one window and chicken coop package (an external opening nest box) delivered for $2k.

The company that built the shed is located in OH and delivered it to me already built and good to go in PA.

I will say, looking at sheds more local to me came closer to the price you are looking at. A 8x12’ built locally would have been closer to $3500-$4000 probably.

I guess my point is, shop around.

Sounds steep for a 4x8, but it could be you're area.
Yeah, I live in a small farming town in South Dakota surrounded by cornfields for an hour. I would love to build one myself, but I'm recovering from shoulder surgery and my husband is a farmer and working 12+ hour days right now. We could definitely build one cheaper, but by the time either of us have the ability to do so, and then purchase wood with a plan, it's going to be probably midway to the end of December.

$2500 is a lot, I just don't know if it's "unreasonably a lot" for having someone do 100% of the work.

This would be my ideal shed!

Yea, I've been Googling for at least 2 days now, going through every option I can find. The problem I have is I live in a tiny town in South Dakota that's an hour away from any major shops or stores. Having something delivered and set up for us is proving to be very scarce, or at least very hard to find. Most the places around here that do this sort of stuff aren't big stores so they don't have a lot of advertisements everywhere. The one that I did find the I linked, I only happened upon him while perusing the chicken Facebook group I'm in.

Yup. I check those everyday and also check the chicken group I'm part of on Facebook. So far no luck within 100 miles of me.

That's such a beautiful coop for that price. Do you have a link to the website?

In my area that would be a very reasonable price... caveat is, I live in an overpriced area. I paid a comparable price square footage wise 7 years ago (when wood and labor were cheaper) for a custom shed-coop.

I would see if they can add more ventilation though. And maybe a chicken pop opening as well (you can add an auto door or manual door) - I paid my shed guy $100 extra to cut and frame one out so it's nice and neat. The windows alone won't cut it and while I see gable vents in a few of their examples it'd be far better if they could leave some of the blocking under the eaves open and covered with hardware cloth, for ventilation up high. Can't really see if there's ridge vents or not (their site isn't loading well for me) but that would help as well.

I went thru Steel City Sheds. Their website is https://www.steelcitysheds.com/ tho I did most of my communication with them thru Facebook. https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100084791537026

They were very easy to work with. My only regret is not sticking with my original color scheme of browns. I decided to go greys and the siding color that looked grey on my monitor came out blue grey on the shed lol.

If I had one suggestion, I’d ask them to lower the height of the nest box and see if they can make the front hinged instead of the top.
