Hi my hen used to lay brownish/orangy coloured eggs, however i have noticed that one side of the egg has a white colour which fades in to the original colour half way. Do you know why this could be ? Am i not feeding her right? Have a look At the attached pic

The egg itself is normal, good shell? She is laying well and hasn't been sick etc, the rest of the flock is fine? I would be sure she has access to calcium, but otherwise if everything else is normal, would vote it is probably just age/heredity if she doing it pretty consistently and is an older hen or at the end of her laying cycle? It seems to be common then. Nice article on loss of shell color in brown eggs.

"As the hen ages it is normal for the tapered end of the egg to contain less pigment than the rounded end."

Thanks for the reply. She is a healthy 10 month old hen who's been laying for about 4 months. Ive noticed these type of eggs a couple of times now. She also has access to grit/oyster shells for calcium. Maybe its normal after all but would love to know what the cause of it is
