We dressed 6 roosters for the stew pot/freezer today and one of them had gonads the size of peas. The rest were about the size of a walnut. He also had a very small comb. I thought this was interesting, I orginally had 25 roos, and have butchered all of them, the last 6 today. I almost missed him and left him in with the rest of the chickens, because his comb was very small, all girls now but for 2 roos, one new roo and one old-timer.

Anyone else seen this before???

When I processed my Barred rock roos, they were all the same age. And yes, thier equipment was all different sizes. None as small as yours, but still all different sizes. Some had bigger combs and some had smaller combs.

Interesting though.

It would be interesting to see if he tastes any different from the others. Sometimes in a pen of all-male meat birds the guys will pick one to be their "girlfriend". Often we'll find after butchering that the "girlfriend" will have smaller testicles than the others.

When we butcher the laying flock circles around the cutting table like sharks, waiting for tidbits to be tossed to them. They seem to really relish the testicles.
Better them than me.

Yes, DH asked if I wanted to save all those testicles and fry them, I said I DON'T THINK SO. He was raised on a farm in Iowa and will eat just about anything, and is scared of nothing. He does the chicken butchering, etc. for me.
