I just hatched chicks from my flock to get sizzles. Half Silkie and half frizzle Cochins. I did get a bunch of cuties with frizzle feathers. But this one is strange. It's literally half frizzle and on top of that it's got one blue Silkie foot. Well it's leg is blue and it's the 5 toe Silkie foot. The other foot is 4 toe. So strange to have mixed genes like this that made half its body one kind of chicken. Anyone seen this before? Do you think sonething could be wrong with it?

Well after some research it looks like it's a chimera. Which I'm a little confused about exactly how it occurred. But from what I've read it can be from 2 sperm fertilizing 1 egg which could have happened because I have a Silkie and a frizzle cochin rooster. I'm not sure if it can still occur with just a rooster and a hen without a double fertilized egg though...still really interesting. It also looks like it might be getting only one wattle....would be crazy if it was half hen

It's been a few weeks and you can see more of the frizzle and smooth combination. It's looks to be at least half rooster so far. And maybe even has 2 combs with one side showing more but not sure yet

OMG! How's this chick doing/looking now?? What a strange occurrence. Would you post more pics? This is so cool to see (says the science geek)!

Did you name it? lol...oh, the possibilities.

This is what he looks like now on both sides. I'm wondering about offspring- do you think he carries both but separately or can his offspring also be half like this??
