I have a couple of SLW hens that should be starting to lay again and I also have two GLW pullets that are due about now to lay for the first time. Today I found a huge soft shell egg is the floor of my coop. When I picked it up I felt something hard inside of it. When I tore open the shell I found egg white and yolk as one would expect and I also found a hard shelled egg as well. Anyone else ever encounter this?

Are you saying that it had a double shell? Or a whole other egg inside? Just curious, I am waiting on my first eggs from my GLW's.

Hi, Sam!

This is uncommon, but not unheard of. Someone on here even cracked an egg open to feed to their dogs, and there were TWO fully formed, tiny eggs inside with hard shells. It's probably nothing to worry about. Sometimes, their repro. tracts take awhile to get up & running.

How are the Silver Ameraucanas doing? Laying for you yet?
