This is the second time I've noticed a strange yellow mass on the straw mulch in my garlic bed. It (they) have just started to appear recently. It's a sticky yellow, egg yolk consistency, somewhat grainy as if mixed with sand. I was hesitant to get a whiff of it, but it isn't foul at all, has a deep earthy rooty veggie odor to it that seems somewhat familiar but I can't pin it down. I've got 6 raised beds, two mulched with straw, and I've only seen this on the one straw mulched bed. Anybody ever seen anything like this or have a clue what it might be? Thanks.... Gary

It's probably just a mold or fungus growing in the straw, I would google search shotgun fungus or dog vomit fungus (sounds gross) to see if that's what it might be. I used to live in a house that had a cedar tree that had Cedar-apple rust, that tripped me out- sorry off topic but just reminded me of that
