Stranger behavior for a rooster? Anyone?

So glad you found out what it was before there was tragedy! Sounds like Roo Roo is a GREAT flock guardian!

Unfortunately, the skunk WILL be back. I suggest you get a live trap and have a gun handy. The skunk needs to be dispatched before he grabs a chicken.

It sounds as though your chickens have access to their run at night ... if so, if you started closing them into their house at night where nothing could get at them, then maybe your roo could get some shut-eye.

The skunk will be back, and if he can find a way to get into the pen, he will likely kill your rooster, and any hens he can reach. Skunks are not good climbers, so I would see to it that your rooster is on a roost each night.

I agree with Momo- close them up in the coop for safety and to get your roo some rest- probably the skunk will not be an issue during the day anyway...

Will do my husband is working on building the croupe and making a hole for the bottom part so they can get down there, as well as caging in the tope area with a door so we can open it in the morning.

Thank you! I did not know skunks would eat a chicken or the eggs. And yes our roo roo is a very good rooster. A real sweatheart! Now just to get his eyes cleared up and he will be the king once again!LOL
