Excellent!!! I love fishing but you couldn't pay me to do it in the cold haha

I only recently took up ice fishing. We have such a short season of safe ice that I couldn’t justify the cost of all the gear. A few years ago my father in law gave me some of his older equipment. When we take a shanty and heaters it gets warm enough that you can take you coat and gloves off. Yesterday the snow was deep and that makes dragging sleds difficult so we just went with what we could carry and sat in the open with the wind at our backs.

It’s warming up around here and most of the snow has turned to mud. The deeper piles are still hanging around but we’re forecasted to get to 59 today and 66 tomorrow. So I think it will all be gone soon.

The incubators are turned on and up to temperature. I plan to set eggs either this afternoon or tomorrow just waiting for a few more eggs. The plan is only Bresse eggs this time. Now I need to get the garage organized to make room for brooders.

Hatching season is officially starting for me. 37 eggs went into the incubators as follows

25 American Bresse laid within the past two weeks

7 American Bresse eggs they are between 2 and three weeks old

5 BC2 Olive Eggers

Some of these eggs were collected on very cold days and I debated on whether to set them or not but I figured I have the space in the incubator so it’s worth a try. The plan is to hatch as many as I can reasonably house and feed then cull hard. I’m looking forward to finding out if these Bresse are any better dual purpose chicken than the Marans mixes I have been working with

I watched a YouTube video of some chefs in London taste testing several breeds of chicken, and the marans was ranked nearly as high as the bresse.

I believe I watched the same video. It was real popular with some Marans and Bresse Facebook groups I follow. It was a good watch
