straw (hay) or wood chips in coop

Hi I'm from the uk, and we have had a very wet few months, my chickens have an out side run 12ft by12ft which isn't covered, so now it is just a mud bath, can I cover the run with wood chip, and how often would I have to change it, thanks

Hi elly123. We too from uk. Cornwall infact We have been using wood chippings from chopped down trees due to the storms. Has helped the mud bath effect and kept the chickens in a dry area. Well worth grabbing a few bag fulls from your local gardener company or if you see the tree surgeons around
