Oh wow! That would be very strange, indeed!
I wonder how the other chickens would handle that? There would certainly be some adjustment of the pecking order, I'm sure.
That is what happens when you live rurally ..... people seem to think we make a good dumping ground for unwanted animals
Luckily she has settled in nicely and there really hasnt been any scraps for the pecking order between her and my other chooks.
I think she has just moulted, and as we are now going into Autumn here in NZ she may only lay for a short period before winter hits? But I am looking forward to seeing what coloured and sized eggs she will produce.
I am rather excited to have this new addition to our brood

She had just had a good scrath around in some wet mash just before I took the pic so that could be what is on her leg ... either that or the grass behind her is playing tricks with your eyes
yes, I did give her the once over before I put her in the pen ( my son caught her to put her in the pen)
Well, if it's not mites, those really are some seriously huge legs. Mash-covered or not, they look very thick. And she does look like she is in the middle of a moult.
I like the pattern on the feathers. Makes me think of a silver Barnevelder.
We had two roosters that came to stay with us. A lady owned them who lived about a quarter of a mile away. They would make their way around a lake to come visit our chickens....... because we had hens, I would imagine.
