This rooster showed up at my house a number of months ago. He's kind of skittish and this is the best picture I could get. He tends to hide behind the girls when I'm trying to take his picture. I currently have Barred Rocks and Rhode Island Red hens and this is my only rooster. He hung around outside my coop for a couple of months and was determined to get inside. As he got used to me being around he started having a more friendly attitude towards me and I would toss him some food occasionally. Then one day he managed to dart inside the coop while the door was open. I kicked him back out the next day and he was roosting in the oak tree above my coop. A few weeks later he managed to dart back inside when I wasn't looking and I just figured...whatever. Now he never made a peep before I finally allowed him to stay but he is certainly crowing his head off now. He's not as big as the girls but I thought I'd find out what he was crowing about so I put 5 eggs in an incubator and sure enough, one of them hatched yesterday. I'm not a chicken expert but I'm pretty sure trying to raise one chick by itself isn't a good idea so luckily the local Orscheln's had chicks this morning and his chick has 6 new friends and all are getting along like chicks do. Time to build a bigger coop...lol! Anybody know what this thing is?

He looks to be a mixed variety Old English Game Bantam. Pretty similar to a birchen 
He's a nice looking guy. Congratulations on the new chicks!

Is he bantam sized?

No but if I had to guess he is around 4 or 5 pounds. He's just a little shorter than my hens but his body is quite a bit smaller.
