Stray Rooster

Maybe throw some extra yummy treats out next time you put them together so he can tidbit for them and call them over? That's a normal roo/hen interaction. He says come here ladies and look what I have for you. Just hope he doesn't use that as a sneak attack for matingšŸ¤¦ā€ā™€ļø A good rooster will always call his ladies and let them eat first.
Oh ok. I was treating them separately. I’ll try that. Thanks!!

Oh that's really neat too! We have 4 rescue potbelly pigs but they can't live together because neither set gets along with each other so they live next door to each other and share a fence line. One set loves to root in the dirt and the other set would probably enjoy toys like that. Great ideas!
Oh that’s very cool. 🐽

I’m so glad you are all here telling me what to look for! Great to hear that it seems normal. Just hope no one tires of all my questions during this process. So about two weeks for the adjustment but let them together now? I guess that would speed things up. Now I need to find a way to get him into their run. They have a pop door to free range and I don’t think he will use that.
Yes, put them together now. If they're not together, then it can take longer. For getting him in there, how about go back to the trap idea? Only this time, set it up against that chicken door so when you lead him into the trap, he goes into the door instead of you trying to handle him.

I might try that. I was hoping he’d follow them in and out but I don’t think he’s brave enough yet. Which means he may not use their coop either. I’ll go let them back out together now. Do you think they need constant supervision at first?

They seem fine from what I'm seeing, so as far as constant supervision, if you're not in a high prey area, then they might be fine. (When my chickens are out, I have to watch for loose dogs and stray cats.) If you're going to be home, I'd peek out there every once and awhile to see how they're getting along, but beyond that, it might just be them adjusting so I don't think there's anything to be worried about. Once he's officially become a member of the flock (by their standards), then I think he'll stick right with them besides occasionally finding a high place to crow and watch for predators from.

Well he came right into the pop door to their yard for scratch. That was simple. However he did not let them eat first. Haha. They steer clear for now. I’ll keep peeking in on them.

Yay, so you got him then, I take it? Congrats! As far as him eating first, he might be hungry enough that he just went for it, plus as of right now in all of their eyes, he's technically not the "man of the house" yet. One thing though, he's also young, so it might take him some time to learn some manners.

Yep he’s in and will hopefully have a coop tonight, provided the ladies invite him. That’s true, maybe he will learn manners soon. He chased a girl off and I stepped toward him and snapped my fingers. He stopped immediately. Not sure I should have but it worked.and a few of them are molting, so cranky.

It’s like a school dance, girls on one side, boy on the other šŸ™‚

It actually looking good, I’ve only introduced pullets to hens, and it’s NOT that smooth!
