Oh, I know! My tom will keep flapping so I have to pin him down and hold his wings against his body when I pick him up.

I am an elderly, tiny woman, who raises large Holland White turkeys. I thought it would be impossible to to catch and drag a 50 #full grown Tom, where he did not want to go, but I find that if I straddle it between my legs, so he cannot flap his wings and hold his wings where they are attached to his body, I can steer him wherever I want him to go. You might want to try it.

If it was me, I would butcher the turkey for several reasons.

First...yummy
Second....turkeys like company. A lonely turkey is generally an unhappy turkey.
Third....yummy
Fourth...I don't know how old it is, but if it is not fully grown, it needs different feed that what you feed your chickens. Unless you keep it isolated, the chickens will want the turkey feed and the turkey will want the chicken feed. That's just how it works. If you do isolate it, see reason 2.
Fifth....yummy.

Of course, if it is not full grown, you wouldn't want to eat it...yet.

In that case you will want more turkeys to keep it company! Good for you!

After that you wil find out how different it is to raise turkeys than chickens, you will fall in love with turkeys of many colors, your flock will grow and you your family will begin to wonder what's wrong with you, anyway. All they wanted in the beginning were three hens so you could have your own eggs, and now look at you! Next you'll be wanting peacocks! Go for it!
I dont have any input on the subject but was reading and thought oh my this is me.....I only wanted 3 ducks to roam around.....then since I was ordering i got 10 chickens and 5 ducks...coon ate all but one duck and four chickens...then replaced 4 chickens...dog got 2 chickens...now predators accounted for and I have my remaining 6 chickens and 1 duck and now have 6 chickens and 3 ducks on the way and if I could get hubby to agree i would get some royal palm turkeys and a pair of tolouse geese lol At what point does a person end up on an episode of animal hoarders haha

You have just begun the journey, young Bird Lady! I have about 300 chickens, over 100 ducks, 3 geese, 58 rabbits, 27 turkeys and more on the way. I love my turkeys and rabbits the most. Will have at least 50 more turkeys in the spring and the rabbits keep multiplying faster than I can count.LOL

Luckily our friends have 3 older teenage boys to do the catching for me.

This painted the funniest picture in my mind... I am not that big of a woman myself and DH gets nervous around even lg chickens. I bet he will get a kick out of watching me wrestle with a turkey! Thanks for the tip!

If I can catch the Turkey I will forsure take pics and let the byc turkey people put their 2 cents on her.

And for those that asked how I know its a she: It looks like a she. Small tail, finer looking/pale colors on head, looks full grown but not a HUGE looking bird like a tom, what else should I look for to make sure its a she?

Picked up my FOR SURE turkey hen! This picture may not be even worth posting but until I get around to taking more this is all I can offer. Sorry!

The introduction to my chickens was interesting. Nothing bad but the chickens didn't know what to do! I was very impressed at how calm and cool she is. Very curious but cautious at the same time. I LOVE the sounds she makes! I really don't want to do this, but what are the thoughts on clipping their wings? I need her to behave if she is to stay out of the oven. Our landlord comes home ins summer and she can't be jumping on top of their RV carport where they will be sleeping... like she tried several times tonight...

Next to her is a 21 week old leghorn x Ameraucana cockerel. Is she full size?
