Wren crept through the trees, looking up towards the sky. A hawk flew above, it's eyes almost piercing into her. She shivered, and hid under the cover of a log.

Poppykit saw Wren and scrabbled over to her happily. Snowbelly hissed at the hawk.

Wren saw Snowbelly and Poppykit, and ran to them, even though they were strangers. A tear rolled down her face. "Have you seen my mama?" she asked, looking up hopefully at Snowbelly.

"What does she look like?" she asked, looking at the little kit at her feet.

"She's all black. Mama and I were separated on the road, and she said that she would be right there, and she ran onto the road, and then... then... a monster came," Wren said, tears rolling down her face.
