streamers on silkies ?

I had a silkie hatch with a single comb, no big deal since they are in a pen with cochins/frizzles. I always thought it was a girl since the comb was rather small and the white roo that hatched with *her* always protected *her*. Well now *she* has grown streamers off of her head, but still doesn't crow (hatched in June 08) . I don't know who is laying because there are 2 cochin/frizzle pullets there too. Is this just a real submissive cockeral? Are the streamers a dead giveaway? I will try to get a pic soon

if there is streamers u got a boy,lol. he is just a quiet boy is all probably low on the pecking order. i would say yes he is just a real submissive cockeral i have quite a few of them.

. I just have sooo many boys and I still have quite a few I don't know what they are yet....

maybe I should put him with my frizzle girls and see if I can get some silkied frizzles....

That sounds like a good idea. I had two silkie boys housed together and they were in love with each other. One never crowed. Sadly, one passed away. I now have the other male with a silkie girl, and doesntseem to think too much of her, but now he seems to be falling in love with my serama roo. Too bad the feeling isnt mutual.

I have a few Silkie roos in with each other but none are pleased with the arrangements. They all want every girl that passes their pens and sometimes squabble over who saw her first! I wish mine were more likely to look at each other in a kind way.

I have 3 Showgirl Roos from the same hatch. Only one is crowing and every morning he gives all the other roos a run for their money as if to establish dominance EVERY day.

Krista-These 3 Silkies hatched Sept 08 only one crowing is a Showgirl who I dont have photo uploaded in Photobucket right now. The one to the right has wattles, no beard, no streamers so its probably a pullet one to the left clearly has streamers. Third one is a pullet. Not entirely bad to have quiet boys, if you do, eh?

Is that second picture of a cockeral also? I thought when the crest was all rounded like a cotton ball it meant pullet?

The second pic, third chicken is a pullet, you are correct. Leaning towards pullet on the second. I edited it, trying to entertain the little ones and peek at the computer from time to time means you do neither well. Silly Silkies, anyway, keep us guessing!
