Hello my fellow chicken friends!! I need Your advice! We incubated and hatched chicks back in April, and we kept 5 of them. We live inside the city limits and we cannot keep any roosters. We had a splash Cochin, who was everyone’s favorite including all my kiddos who he just let cuddle him like crazy, but he started crowing 2 weeks ago. We found him a new farm home to go to that was close to us and that wouldn’t put him on their plates for a while. (I’m not against that, but he was our pet and we love love love him, so i wanted To give him a chance to keep living)

So I’ve been in contact daily with the her Daily. She’s sent pictures and has assured me that he’s doing well. Usually texts back immediately. I asked if we could go visit him last week and we went on Friday. He has lost so much weight and feathers. Now i know they molt when they’re stressed, and last week was nothing but stressful for him i have no doubt. But..... and he’s was covered in mud, ok so he lives on a farm. But in between his wings on his back was a patch where there were no feathers at all, it was raw skin and oozy. She teaches horseback lessons and had a class going on so i didnt want to interrupt her and ask so i just sent her a text, and she still hasn’t responded to me. I have told her repeatedly that if it didn’t work out, we’re happy to go pick him back up, but she always said how well he was integrating. I dont know what to do but it has tortured me since. He still let the kids pass him around and love on him like no big deal as always. But all of them, esp my Youngest, just said how skinny and little he was. He was not little when we dropped him off. What should i do??? . The first pic is the day we left him 😢😢
-signed, heartbroken chicken mom who loves those babies like they’re my pets because that’s what they are to me

Once they leave you, not your chicken. It is rough when they go into a new place. Thing is, it would be rough if you brought him back. I am thinking that in another 2 weeks he will just be fine, feathers and weight back. And he will be a better rooster.

What I am saying, is, is that he is more than likely over the worst of it, and will begin to thrive shortly. If you brought him back, he would be back to being a stranger AGAIN, as his original flock will have forgotten him.
