So I've seen other post about this, but I couldn't find any pictures to be sure of what I was looking at. I just received some chicks from a hatchery and one of them has a string coming out of its bottom. I thought it was pasty butt, so I soaked the chick's bottom for a few minuets to see if I could get it out. It did not work. The chick is eating and drinking fine, but now the other chicks are picking at the string. And now the chick will only come out of the warmer when all the other chicks are in the warmer. I'm not really sure if its pasty butt, the umbilical cord (chick version), or something else. Please help.

One of my new chicks has the same. At first I thought it was a piece of hair in the brooder but when I tried to pick it up, it was attached to someone's butt. I assumed it was "umbilical cord" and left it alone because the others haven't been picking at it.

here a pic
