I built a bator when one I'd ordered through Craigslist didn't come in. I haven't had that much time to mess with it, as my hatching eggs arrived yesterday. I finally finished the bator at 0100 this morning.
Last night, once it got up to temp and I was trying to regulate it....I noticed that the humidity would go down to LOW on the ACCU-RITE hygrometer/thermometer I'm using, anytime the lid was opened. There is a shallow bowl w/ sponge in the bottom.

How long would it take to go back up after you put the lid back on?

Perhaps two bowls with sponges? or paper towels?

Hi!
I live in a wood heated home too and the household humidity doesn't register on my hygrometer either, so I'm guessing it's in the teens.
If your incubator humidity is otherwise stable, you may want to rig up some aquarium tubing from the outside of your incubator into your water plate so you won't have open it to add water.
You would be adding water with a syringe of some sort, you can get an oral syringe from your local pharmacist...usually for free.
