This little one is 6 weeks old but I’m not sure what it is (color type or gender). It is definitely a jerk to the other birds, at least 5 which are hens (1 other bird is unsexed as of yet, but is docile so far), because it won’t stop chasing two other quail in particular and has pulled feathers off of ones head today (not sure if this is hormone related or pecking order related). I know it could be a little early for vent sexing, but it looks like a female vent to me.

I knew I forgot to add a photo 🤦🏼‍♀️ I wasn’t sure between roux dilute or a few other options - this was a “hatcherys choice” bird from de gamebirds so it could be a number of options 😂

Good to know - somehow we’ve ended up with 5 hens, 1 still unsexed and this guy from our last hatch so I’m glad at least ONE is a roo!

I agree with male and roux. This is an Egyptian Sparkly (heterozygous-1 copy) rooster. Sounds like you got a great ratio to work with. :clap
Interesting! That makes a lot of sense as we ended up with a bunch of other sparkly birds from this same hatch. I think it was maybe the sparkly throwing me off in feather sexing him since he is sort of speckled on his chest. Would you mind clarifying how you know it’s a roo since I’m less experienced? Thank you!
