Stubborn Eaters?

My three chickens and one rooster (which are almost two months old) will not eat anything but their chicken food and mashed up hard boiled egg. I live in Arizona so it is very hot and I want to give them some cool treats. I read frozen watermelon is a good treat so I gave them some, but they just stare at it. Any suggestions?

Just make sure they have fresh cool water and lots of shade. Chickens tend to cut back on eating when it gets hot. They are also reluctant to try anything new. At least with their chicken feed they're getting an appropriate mix of vitamins, minerals, proteins and fats.

ok thank you! they have a lot of shade and love huddling under our fig tree, we have a small "pool" for them with about an inch of water in it, a water bowl outside and one in their coop.

Yeah, they love foot baths when it's hot. Probably the best thing for them. Sometimes I float a frozen water bottle in a big pan of water.

Without an adult showing them the ropes, they may just be a little chicken when it comes to trying new treats.
