Stumped

I had a coturnix hen I got at two months old. She didn't lay an egg for another two months until we put her with another hen who was already laying eggs and a male who would build nests for them to lay in. After that she would lay every day and didn't stop until she went broody on 12 eggs. I agree with everyone else about the calcium but just letting you know they don't always lay the moment they reach maturity.

I'm just surprised that none of them are laying. The hens that these are hatched from layed eggs at 8 weeks old.

I'll see if I can supplement calcium, one way or another.

You could use something as simple as tums if you dont have abuncha egg shells on hand. Im sorry i dont know the use ratios. I make the deviled eggs for all my family get togethers so i save the buncha shells at that time and usually they last til the next time. As my birds have enough calcium usually im just adding them to the dust bath and then its free choice. They often want to eat some of the sand in the dust bath as grit anyway.

Also quail can really withhold their eggs for just about anything. I know someone who has told me if her dust baths get close to empty her birds with hold eggs. Mine definitely quit if i move em from one cage to another. So i mean im only taking stabs in the dark with the most common causes but could be anything, or a combined couple of small stressors.
