My favorite dog cornered a badger that was on its way to see about my chickens. Good dog and good hubby for calling the dog off. Is it normal for badgers to be out during the day? I ask because the badger is alive and I don't think my run is badger proof.

Badgers are out during the day. Proofing against them is tough because they are incredible diggers. Short of a great dog (which you have), tons of hotwire and buried concrete I am not sure you could stop one from getting in, you may discourage it enough to go away.

This is a badger pelt I have for a project...check out the claws and this is a smaller badger.

ummmm you cannot be serious? You'd be better off with a 50 lb wolverine, much more docile creatures.

Do you realize how vicious badgers are? Let me put it this way...back in the old days, our tribe used Badgers as the means to carry out a death sentence of a clansman convicted of certain crimes. The quilty party was stripped naked or to the waist, tied seated to a tree, small shallow cuts were made across the abdomen and a wild badger was released to carry out the sentence. They did the job well. Please do me a favor...do not ever try to catch a wild one or keep one as a pet.

Badger vs pitbull? I'll bet on the badger every time. My uncle lost several dogs to badgers, and it wasn't pretty. Those claws are razor sharp, and they know how to use them. They can also do a lot of damage with their teeth. NOT a good animal to consider for a pet.

I don't hear much about them carrying the rabies virus though. They are very solitary animals, and have little contact with other species, so don't have much exposure, like coons or skunks.

Cool pelt, would love to get one.

funny llama song.

We dont have them here.

With those claws looks like you would need a bunker to keep them out.
