Just for the heck of it I called to see what they had (even tho I don't Need babies) and the girl said all we have are silkie chicks.....I LOVE my silkies, UGH

DON'T TRUST HER!!!!!!!

TSC is not supposed to carry Silkie chicks. I know this because when our TSC manager and I were discussing the types of chicks they'd actually offer in the store, I specifically requested that he confirm what fancy breeds the store would be carrying. He couldn't find the listing, so he called corporate and, after a lot of voicemail run-around, got a human. The human apparently told him that they'd get Millies and Seabrights; he told the human to hold on and relayed the info to me. I asked him to ask if there would be any Cochins, Phoenixes, or Silkies. He asked and was told that a few select stores might carry Phoenixes this year, that they hoped to get Cochins, but that no Silkies would be offered, even through Special Order.

Seeing how well versed TSC employees tend to be (check that thread out, it's around here somewhere!), I wouldn't bet that those are Silkie chicks. They might be bantam Cochins, or they might be Booted Bantams, which can both look pale blond and fluffy. Of course, there's always the possibility that for some odd reason, the hatchery did stick in a few Silkies, but given their delicate nature and their size -- not to mention the demand for them -- I doubt it.

Don't go! Don't go! Don't go! There. Hope that helps!

It Helps, but Im fighting the urge, ha....she said they are black and lighter black in coloring and I said they are silkie??? she said yup....but I know what you mean, they are not very well informed.....I know if I go Im coming home with 6 so Im telling myself to stay away, I dont think Im gonna listen

I was told the batums I got at a farm store were listed silkies too but they aren't they do have feathers on their feet and they are fuzzy but they don't match the description of a silkie

I know chances are they aren't, and if I wait long enough they will sell out, all the chicks at our store go Fast, so Im gonna fight the urge for now....Ive been waiting for their bantams to come in but because it's still cold here they are having them shipped later (good idea).....I just DONT need any more but Im having baby chick withdrawal...it's been many many months

Maybe she is confusing the word "silkie" with how the chicks feel when they pick them up and kiss on them?

I got 2 buff Silkies from the bantam bin at my local TSC.
I do not expect the employees to know anything on the chicks as far as what they have or what they are getting.
I recognized the black skin, 5 toed, feather legged cuties off the bat.
