I went out to feed them cabbage tonight. They don't know how to eat it! They stared at the head forever so I pulled a piece off and tossed it on the ground. They stared at it too. One hen tried to pick it up but because their beaks were cut off she couldn't pick it up.
Two of the hens have gotten more acclimated though, they come out of the coop every day and socialize with the rest of the flock. Occasionally the other hens will venture a few feet into the run to get water but it's usually only when we fill it up and everyone comes running for fresh water. (No, we don't let them run out, they just love it when we fill it up each day)
Still, I really wanted to add more EEs to the flock. I know, I'm whining. These girls are just so stand offish and dangit they're ugly! I need to take pics so you all can see what I'm talking about.
Is it normal to have just the stalk of the feather without all the fluff? Looks like somebody stripped the fluffy part right off. Some of them have no feathers at all on their chests and necks. One poor girl's rump looks like somebody gave her a hair cut, her feathers just abruptly stop in the middle of the stalk (I'm not sure what the right name is for that). I keep hoping they'll turn around but so far, I haven't seen much of a change in them. And still no eggs.
