Stupid question about opening feed bags

Hello,
I remember as a kid and was shown once how to open a feedbag so that the string would just unravel and let go. I can't remember, I have been trying to figure it out since May. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

On the feed bags these days, you just grab the paper strip under the string and pull, it comes right off.....

if one end of the string doesn't work the other one usually will. unless you pulled it into a knot.

but it is easier to just rip the paper strip to get the feed opened.

ooh, and DON'T leave the string near the chickens for them to possibly eat it!

On the top of the feed bag where the string is sewn in you should see:
One side where the string goes all the way to the end and the other side that it is sort of loose and not sewn all the way. The loose side is where you pull the string. Then it should come right off.

These bags are not paper and nothing is loose. I have to cut the string with scissors.... right now it is like taking a hem out of a hemline on pants.... every stitch has to be cut. I wish we had paper bags!

I just pull one side of the string. If that doesn't work, I'll try the other side. Sometimes in frustration, I'll break the bag open with a pair of scissors (carefully)!

Once, I totally was having a REALLY bad day and just flipped out on the stupid string. We keep the feed in our garden shed in metal cans. It was raining the bags are really heavy. Yes, my feed mill used 100 lb bags - I am a 5'1" mom. they are heavy! Grabbed the hedge clippers and destroyed the bag, left string and shedded bag all over then stormed out and went in the house. After I calmed down I laughed at the whole mess. Felt better, still can't figure out the string, get scissors!

On either side of the thread, use your fingernails and pull out the sewn "loop" that is closest to the end, it will usually pull the loose string and give you a main string to pull out the rest of the sewings.
