stupid question about roosts

Do chickens always face out, away from the wall when roosting? I am planning a roost about 12 inches away from the wall and if they don't face out, my poo board is not going to be in the right place. Many thanks!

Mine face the window so they can start crowing as soon as the sun comes up, No wait a minute they were crowing at 2am this morning, so they face out so they can HOWL at the full moon.
