Stupid question perhaps

Yea, his issue is mental...lol

I really like BeckyLa's idea and I think I'm goint to try that. I have a good few months until we get to that point, so maybe by then he'll get out of the phase...lol (One can hope right?) I think he thinks its either 'gross' or (since he is such a major softy, which sucks because it means I'll be the one doing all the culling. Thanks Hub!

) he thinks he'll be eating what would have been a chicky. Me, I guess I'll try not to think about it, knowing that if I gather the eggs once or twice a day there isnt time for a hen to begin to set them, and thus no chicky. I plan to eat the eggs no matter what since I do love eggs so (drools thinking of a great big omelette....) lol Plus, we plan to sell off the extras. I figure a laying flock of 10-12 will lay roughly 10 eggs a day, thats 70 eggs a week! Wow! Maybe I better buy some egg cartons.....

Even I cant eat THAT many! Wish me luck in changing my man. Yea!

Use to be a rumor runing around the cities that fertile eggs were healthier for you. Not true of course , but there you go. Those that believe they are healthier will pay a premium for them.

Well, I have found that having a roo has helped. I got a roo and two hens (at the moment). After they got used to each other .....the hens now follow him everywhere....he goes out, they go out.....he goes in, they go in. It's pretty cool.

He's very sweet and gentle....never thought I'd actually LIKE a roo.

I'm glad this came up. Here's another question I have for you all. How do I explain to my husband (in laymen terms lol) that it is perfectly alright to eat a fertile egg (since we'll have roos)? He thinks that all the eggs will be fertile and that they wont be good to eat, and is pretty much flat out refusing to eat any egg that I dont candle. I used to breed smaller birds so I know from experience that if you take an egg away before the female can begin incubating it, the embryo wont develope and the egg would be just fine to eat (though I dont know many people that would eat cockatiel eggs!). Now....how do I tell HIM that?...lol

Ask him what he is going to do if anything every happens to our supply of food at the store? He needs to man up and be a good little omnivore.
