idk if this is in right place but i ordered some chickens from a private breeder and was wondering if since i dont have a PO box i just have a mailbox will they be delivered to my house or do i still need to go to post office to pic them up?

Talk to your post person. Let them know what your expecting.

You could give them your number and have them call you if they will. You can get them from the post office too. The sooner you can get them home the better.

Best of luck!!

I went to the post office to pick mine up, but then I live in a small town. (Population 3,500) They were willing to hold the box for me to pick up. I simply left my phone #'s for them to call when they came in. It worked out fine. They probably see more live chickens than you would imagine.

Picking them up is always a better plan, if possible. Sitting in a too hot/too cold delivery truck is just more stress on your young chicks. And we've all heard the stories of chicks being left on the porch or gate to meet some terrible dek9se before you realize they are there. Also, your postman may LOVE you for not making him listen to them till he gets them to your door~!!

I always pick up chicks at the PO, and from now on I'll pick up eggs too. I found that I had much better hatch rates if the mailman isn't driving all over gravel roads with my eggs before they get to me. Don't forget to have the seller put your phone number and instructions in big letter on the front /top of the box.

Every time I have ordered chicks they end up lost in the mail for at least a day. I've even driven to the main PO hub to get them in the middle of the night. Otherwise it would have been 2 days longer than "express"- which I paid out the nose for.
