Stupid Question

How much does the rooster effect the color of the egg being layed? If I have an Americana rooster and a French Copper Maran hen, will the eggs be lighter?

NO.. the rooster has no effect on egg color.

Not a dumb question at all! Egg will not change.. it is the hen who determines the egg color.

Thanks. Then I am assuming if the eggs are hatched the effect of the mixed breeds will show up when that chick begins laying.

Just to clarify ... I had a sexlink (half RIR/BR) and she layed brown eggs. She bred to an EE Roo and the resulting hens lay greenish eggs. When you mix up breeds, what results is random. I've had EE hens that laid brown eggs, too.
