If you use cartons in your bator to help turn the eggs or hold them in place, do you use the cardboard or styrofoam kind? And do you leave the chicks in there or take them out and lay the eggs on their side for hatching? Thanks.

I have not personally tried it yet.....but am going to this hatch. I see that most people are using the cardboard ones and they leave them in there for the hatch. I have an auto turner so I am planning on taking the eggs out of it on day 18 and placing them in cartons.

i use cardboard ones. and when i send the little eggies to the hatcher on day 18 i take them out and lay them on their sides. this way the cartons don't get all yucky and i can reuse them.

i use card board and take thelm out on the 18th day and lay on side. The cardboard seames to be stronger.

I use the cardboard ones. I also cut a hole in the bottom of the carton, so if by some chance a chick pips low, he will get enough air until I can help him out.

You put the eggs in the carton fat end up.

I tried it, but neither worked out for me. I went with putting them on their sides. I am currently building wood trays with 1.5 in. holes cut in them.
