I Know how you are supposed to wash eggs (if you absolutely must). But here's my problem, my grandma has always kept her eggs in a bucket then put water in the bucket and washed them that way (right before selling them) so that's what I've been doing except I wash them soon after gathering and refrigerate them. I know they say not to submerge them but my grandma has been doing it for quite a long time and no one got sick (her or her customers). Should I stop doing it now? Many eggs are near impossible to clean without soaking since the hens like to get the nesting boxes dirty sometimes or just lay them on the ground:( I'm mostly concerned since our eggs will be used at thanksgiving for our friends and family! Thanks in advance for answers! :cd

We occasionally soak an egg if its dirty and have never gotten sick from an egg.
Wouldn't leave them submerged for long tho.

Hello :frow and Welcome to BYC! We soak eggs for a little while when washing if they are dirty. The egg wash powder I use says to soak them for 5-15 minutes, rinse etc.

Welcome!
I too will submerge incredibly dirty eggs before selling them to friends....for that matter, will do it for the ones we eat too.
