Hi, We are in the midst of building a run and coop for 6 ducks. Right now floor of the duck run is just dirt. I am having a hard time finding out what is the best flooring to have down for them. I know they will make a mess of plain dirt and I'm just not sure if I should use pea gravel, or shavings, or something else. I would love some advice for someone who has a system that works well. We are in WA state, so it's wet, but the run will have a roof. As for the coop area, we're also hoping to use it to store some of their supplies, so it will be big enough to stand up in. Is a wood floor with straw on top good, or is there something else that is easier to keep clean? Thanks in advance for all input.

I don't know about dirt flooring. We used pallets and put a sheet of plywood on top of them for the floor.

As far as height I would definitely go for one that's taller than you! You'll get tired of hitting your head if you don't!

If you can do it wire it for a light and a plug too while you're building it. Makes clean up so much easier when you don't have to hold a flashlight in your mouth while cleaning out the pen.
