I am the father of a family of 5. We finally caved in to my oldest son's constant nagging, (he has wanted chickens since he was 3, and now he is 14!) and allowed him to get 10 chicks in April of 2011. Now we're sad we didn't do it 10 years ago. They are a great addition to our family and bring joy and laughter everyday. The eggs are great, and the experience that my kids are getting in being responsible for something is priceless. I am a professional mechanic and my wife homeschools our 3 great kids. It's a somewhat chaotic life but it's ours. This community has been great and I don't know if we could have pulled this off without the information available on here. We also built our coop from almost 100% repurposed materials. We only purchased 2 boxes of screws during the construction and we have an awesome mansion for our ladies. When I figure out how to post a picture I'll show you our "recycled coop"
