Success rate giving first time broody live babies?

I have a broody whose eggs do not appear to be developing (on day 11). She has never had babies before and I’m very concerned about giving her live babies without knowing how she will be as a mama. Any advice or suggestions appreciated.

I just recently did this and it worked beautifully. I went and bought 4 one-day old chicks and put them under her. She was kind of unsure in the beginning but within minutes, she took to them and she did awesome. Those were her babies. I actually did it in the middle of the day but some people wait until it’s dark. They are all 9 weeks old now.

That is precious! Yours is a first time mama? I gave babies to my other mama (also in the daytime with no issues) but she already hatched babies previously. How long had your mama been sitting when you gave them to her?

Yes, first time mama and she did great! She just turned a year old in May. We didn’t have a rooster at the time so that was my only option. I would do it again! 😊

Did she try to attack you when you were putting the babies under her? Mine is very aggressive in this broody state. Normally friendly.
I have been lucky because none of my broodys have ever tried to attack me. Pearl, the one that just had babies was actually very sweet the entire time. She would draw blood on the other hens anytime they would come near her or the babies but never minded me. I think it depends on each chicken. She was so used to make put my hands underneath her, she really didn’t know what was going on. I have another hen that goes broody every single year and she’s 6 1/2 years old and it’s the same for her. I’m all up in their business lol.

I have let a hen that was under a year hatch chicks, and she did really good, and her baby went broody at around 7 months old and hatched chicks but sorta abandoned them a little early. I guess she tried and decided raising babies wasn't for her. I was really disappointed in her mother for not telling her once you start something you have to finish it. I suppose I can't expect to much from a chicken.
