Two days ago I had to help a little button quail out of his egg becasue the membrane was starting to dry to him. When I pulled hi out he started chirpping away but was not able to walk at first. So i waited and waited and it wasn't till 5 hours after he "hatched" that he started to get the hint of walkin around. After he dryed off a bit i decided to put him in the brooder. I obseved the other 3 eggs and there was nothin. A few more hours went by and after a few hours I went to check on him and it seeemed he had gotten very week and couldnt stand.

So I picked him up and dipped his beak into the water and he started to drink a little. After about ten minutes he started to get better and better. So I left him alone again for a few hours, and when i ame back.....same story. I was thinkin that it was being alone that was killin him. So I took one of my 3 week old hens that is blind and put her in the brooder with him just for some company. I figured cause she was blind that she wouldnt be able to hurt him.

Well a few minutes went by and the seemed to be getting along just fine. But after 10 minutes of being out of the room. The hen seemed to have walked right through the water, wich is in an upside down ice cream bucket cover, and the little bugger followed her right in and must have slipped face first into the water. I came in and he was soaked flopping around with his whole beak under water (didnt realize the water was that deep). When i ran over there and pulle him out he was gasping for breathe but couldnt get air into his lungs. So i picked hime up again and started to do tiny chest compressions, after a few pumps water came out of his nose and mouth! He started to breathe and after a few seconds started trying to chirp. Five minutes later the chirp became loud again and he started breathin normal! So I replace the water with more shallow container and took the hen out. This mornin he has three brother and sisters, and he is doing awsome!

Im so happy everything worked out and this littlw guy is quite the little fighter thats for sure!

That is AWSOME! It is so sad to lose one and sometimes it seems like nothing can help. I'm so glad for you .... and him!
