After 2 failed attempts because of temperature spikes with my new homemade incubator I finally hatched out 8/10 chicks, 4 cuckoo marans and 4 olive eggers on Friday. I fixed all the glinches now

and filled up the incubator with a fresh load of eggs for Easter chicks, so I moved these eggs into the hatcher. I couldn't remember what day I set them so I just kept turning them until I saw pips. Now there's hope for the 69 eggs that I just set on the 8th!
These cuckoo marans sure seem to have a lot of white on their backs. Is this how they're supposed to be? I got hatchery ones last year and I can't remember them having so much white. I hatched the olive eggers in a hatching net bag, otherwise I'd think these were the ameraucana crosses.

Yay for you.. I guess it is true the third times the charm... I finnaly had some eggs hatch this week and it was third attempt as well.. Congrats.. Be carfeul though as I already have my eye on MORE eggs....Its addicting

Congrats to you! How many and what kind?
Yes I know how addicting it can be! That's why I wasn't satisfied with just a small hovabator that holds 42 eggs. I wanted something that holds more, so this one I made holds up to 12 dozen eggs which is way more then I could ever need. I love them when they're tiny but I'm so glad that I sell most of the chicks I hatch because I would be overrun with chickens...lol
These young guys will probably be going to auction this spring or have a date with the axe - I'm dying to taste the marans and I didn't want to butcher any of my starter flock last year.

I had 5 Buttons pop out three days ago 1 frizzle Cochin Bantam pop out 2 days ago and Yesterday I hatched 18 Jumbo Coturnix babies.. That added to my Ideal order that came in last week of 26 Cornish X and 9 BBB Turkeys comes to a total of 69 chicks.. With another 2 dozen Mixed chicken eggs , 1 Pekin and a dozen more coturnix in the bator....... And I made myself only get the Hovabator because I KNOW I would fill anything larger.... LOL

You've got a good assortment! Are you planning another hatch after this one? LOL It's an addiction for sure! I don't know why I wasn't satisfied with the hovabator but you know...
sometimes there's clears
sometimes I drop them when candling
sometimes they just died before hatching...
So many things and I would end up with only about 30 chicks. I never seemed to have enough for myself and I had to hatch some in June and quit selling them.
I now have over 60 in the bator now - 24 are silkies. I candled yesterday and took out 7 and then there's some iffy ones still. I'm hoping to hatch about 45-50 of these and then do one more bigger hatch in April and be done with it with only 2 hatches instead of 4.
I do have orders for chicks already and a lot is because they've seen the eggs or chickens I sold last year.
