Successful thread starters--Share your tips!

It's hard to give advice like that due to so many kinds of threads.

But having been on BYC awhile there are some definite trends...in example, stories got super popular on here around a year ago; then eventually that died down because just about every BYC account had a "story" they were writing and it got old. There are still a few stories hanging around: a much, much more manageable amount.

But why did stories get popular in the first place? I believe a part of the answer is that it was new and fresh, if you will. Also a large number of people could participate and have their own little "thing" as everyone else did.

So a big deal is participation for the public on here, I guess.

Oh, and another thing I have also observed is that there are blow-up threads (threads that blow-up for a week or more than die down), many chat threads are blow-up threads unless there are five people a day that chat on that specific thread about nothing in particular, like usual.
Then there are threads that are on-going games, such as Boys vs Girls, or Girls vs Girls, nickname thread...etc. Those usually last awhile if they're interesting.

With other sections in BYC things are a little different, such as Random Ramblings, there are many threads that just come and go because there are questions or short discussions. I think a few live ones are called, "Green Club" and "SDWD" (no idea what that means xD).

In conclusion, I would say it would depend where you are posting and what goal you have for your thread. That's a good place to start. I hope I've been helpful. And good luck with what you're planning.
