My banty Leghorn finished a winter molt about one month ago and hasn't starting laying again yet. Now that the days are lengthening she appears to be starting another molt and I am concerned. Once again she is loosing the feathers on her head and is replacing them. I worry that this is going to be too much for her. Anyone else experiencing this? I've been offering BOSS and dried mealworms in addition to her feed. What else can I do? Thanks in advance, Carrie Lynn

She is losing feathers on her head? Right behind her comb? Is there a roo nearby? If so, he is likely pulling her head feathers out as he is mounting her and she should start laying soon.

No, no roos. Also, she is at the top of the pecking order and the other 3 hens get along w/ her just fine.
Just as in her previous molt, she started losing the small feathers on her face and head. I just hope it doesn't continue into a full molt.
