My rooster occasionally fakes out the hens with spurious tidbits, too! I always chide him for his deception, but I don't think my approval matters to him one whit.

I was so bummed yesterday... My roo was acting funny yesterday morning and I was really worried about him. I had to leave for town and by the time I came home, he had passed away. I'm not sure what was wrong with him, he showed no signs of injury. I did notice his comb/wattles looked a little purple. He just kept closing his eyes like he was tired. It looked like he passed peacfully at least.

On the bright side, I went out to find some of the eggs in my incubator pipped. Hopefully part of him will live on in the babies.

I have a Rooster and two hens..this is all new to me as well. they are about 5 months old and I started noticing my rooster doing this a couple few months ago too. It's so cute! He will even pick up treats and feed it to the hen..hold it in his mouth for her to peck it out. But the hens sure don't care if he gets any..I often try to separate him just so I can give him treats that he will actually eat.
