Hi. New guy from eastern Iowa here. The chicken in my avatar is why I am here. It was an escapee from the neighbor. He could not catch him and gave up. The chicken just stuck around usually in my yard. We got a lot of snow and the poor guy was having a tough time finding food. I started throwing out some ground corn I had for birds and it didn't take long for him to figure out where it was coming from. We became buddies. He would sit on my back step and crow every morning until I fed him. I got attached. I told the rest of the family not to name him and get used to the idea that he would just be gone one day. Lots of coyotes around here. He became known simply as Chicken and the family loved him. I started calling him McNuggett. So I got sucked in by a chicken. McNuggett finally just disappeared and I missed him. I now have 10 replacements. 4 Silver Laced Wyandottes and 6 that were simply marked as heavy breeds at the local farm store. 4 of those look like Buff Orpingtons. 2 are red and don't look like each other and I have no clue what they are. I will post pics and ask for help later on.
Im refurbishing and old shed into a coop. Lots of work but rewarding.
