I'm getting worried.
Three weeks ago I found my lead rooster dead in the outside run.
There was no trauma, no blood, he was just dead.
Yesterday I found one of my hens sticking out of the nesting box. Dead. Again- no trauma.
I run a clean coop. 13 hens- one rooster. The coop is large, clean, and draft free. The outside run is also well maintained.
I grind my own feed- corn,wheat,oats,soybean and then add laying mash rations for the hens. Good clean spring water and plenty of grit.
The only thing I noticed was that the dead hen made an odd cluck from about 5 days before she died. Kind of a cross between a sneeze and clearing the throat. She would let out one of these sounds from time to time. Not sure if the rooster did this before he passed.
Any ideas?
