This morning when i opened my coop, my rooster was huddled in the back corner on the floor. Yesterday he was absolutely fine. I brought him inside to warm up, but he never recovered, and died within an hour. What could possibly have happened? No signs of injury or anything else. All my hens seem fine.
Anyone have any idea?

Sorry about your rooster, that must have been a shock.

The cause could be heart attack or some disease that didn’t show any obvious signs. There’s no way to tell without a necropsy. If you Google around you can find how to get one done in your area, since it’s the weekend you can refrigerate the body and send it in during the week. Otherwise you can try to perform one yourself. I think someone posted a video about what to look for, but I can’t find it at the moment.

Sorry for your loss. How old was your rooster? Were there other roosters in your flock? How cold is the temperature where you are located? Had he been eating and drinking normally? Can you look over the other birds for lice or mites, and note what their droppings look like? As Cinnamon Roll posted, a necropsy by the state vet is the best way to find a cause of death. The body needs to be kept refrigerated, but not frozen. Here is a list of state vets to contact:

He was absolutely fine yesterday, no other roosters. His poops were normal. It was about 23 degrees last night, but it’s been worse than that before and he was fine. could eating the hens oyster shell have hurt him? I read it could affect a roosters kidneys, he was a year old.

Unfortunately we live 2 1/2 hours from the nearest state vet
