Yesterday morning when I left home, my young adult chicken was happily sitting on her nest. when I came back late in the afternoon, she was still there. That struck me as odd and when I picked her up, I noticed she was lethargic and one eye was closed. There were 2 eggs in the nest, I couldn't tell if one of them was hers.
I checked her vent and there was no egg in there.
There was no blood anywhere.
A few minutes later she died.
There was a yellowish discharge from her vent - it was not foamy (as one of our members asked).
Does anyone have an idea of what this might be? I am worried about a contagious problem.
