Today one of our chickens was found dead in the coop. Zero warning, no sign of illness the day before, and no sign of injury. She was found on the bottom of the coop looking like she had died in her sleep. My parents couldn’t tell she was dead until my mom nudged her a bit with a stick. The others are all still alive and doing well, no sign of weird poop or anything. We buried her in the back. Any ideas? I’m worried that the others are going to randomly start dropping dead.

She was a year old. They eat layer feed and have water, and we give them scratch and sunflower seeds occasionally as a treat. She was a lavender Orpington as well if that information helps.

Sorry for your loss. I saw in a few posts. It is usually over heating. Insect bite, rats.
Or even a heart attack if comb was purple. And also egg bound. That is all that I can think of, how is your kids doing. I hope it was just a bad luck chickie.
