This morning we found that our beautiful Cochin Rooster passed overnight in his coop. There have been no signs of ill health. He was fine yesterday and the rest of the flock (10 hens) all seem fine. Their run is large, fully fenced with chain-link fencing and a solid roof, so no predators are responsible. The coops (3) are large enough to hold many more birds. Any ideas? Thank you so much.

Sorry for your loss. How old was he? If you still have his body, and can keep it cold or refrigerated, not frozen, you can contact your state vet for a necropsy. It would be hard to know exactly what would have caused his death otherwise. Here is a list of most state vets for you to contact:

I'm very sorry for your loss. :hugs Without knowing if he had any other symptoms its's almost impossible to know what happened. You could a necropsy done, either at home or send him off, but if it was not an illness they may not know.
