One of my ladies was laying under the coop and not moving this afternoon. She was fine this morning. When we pulled her out her vent was prolapsed. But also her left leg is fully extended and rigid. She can not move it. Her right leg is pliable but she’s not actively moving it either. I was able to get her in a bath and successfully move the prolapse back inside the vent. We put some hydrocortisone cream on it as well. However we can’t her her to mover her legs.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated. I will add some pictures of her from tonight as well.

It looks possibly like she may have had an egg in her oviduct tract with the prolapse. I’m not sure, and not an expert though. Very sorry for your loss. Are you in the US? Could you send her body to your state vet for a necropsy?

When I manually put her prolapse back I didn’t feel any eggs. With her legs paralyzed we are almost wondering if she didn’t injure herself on one of her great escapes. She was our escape artist and liked to jump on top of the coop and out of the pen. I almost think that the prolapse was a secondary issue. When I palpated her vent she didn’t seem to have any sort of muscle tone back there. So I think she just lost control.

We are in the US. I didn’t even think to send her to the state. That would have been much easier than digging a hole in the Wyoming clay at midnight last night. Next time for sure.
